For Pupils

 

Advocacy - December 2008 (dates to be confirmed)

 

Advocacy training for pupils will take place in Manchester over two days in December 2008. Invitations will be issued in due course.

 

Family - December 2008 (dates to be confirmed)

 

It is also a Circuit requirement that pupils attend a training day in Family Law, which generally takes place the day before the pupil advocacy training, each December. If you intend to practise in Family Law you will need to attend for the full day and, if not, for the morning only. Details will be sent to chambers in due course.

 

For New Practitioners

 

Ethics - October & November 2008 (dates to be confirmed)

 

Ethics training will take place again this year at the Manchester Metropolitan University over two evenings in October / November 2008. Each session wil be 1.5 hours in duration, together meeting the Bar Council's requirements of 3 hours for New Practitioners.

 

Advocacy - October & November 2008 (dates to be confirmed)

 

New Practitioner Advocacy training will take place at the Manchester Metropolitan University over two Saturdays in October and November 2008. Each training session will last 4.5 hours, together meeting the new Bar Council requirements of 9 hours of advocacy training for New Practitioners. This year's training will be open to and priority given to those New Practitioners whose NPP ends by December 2008 and invitations will be issued accordingly in the near future.

 

For New & Established Practitioners

 

A seminar programme is organised in conjunction with, and held at, the Manchester Metropolitan University. Further dates for Autumn will be added in due course.

 

Chambers' management / practice development

 

Pupil Supervisor Courses -

 

Liverpool & Manchester - Autumn 2008 (dates to be confirmed)

 

Pupil Supervisor courses are planned to take place in Liverpool and Manchester in early September to co-incide with the Autumn intake of pupils.

 

Public Access training

 

The College of Law, in association with the Bar Council, has designed a one day course for barristers wishing to undertake public access work: the course aims to provide barristers with the knowledge needed to accept and manage 'direct' instructions.
