New Silks on Circuit

The 2011/12 Queen’s Counsel Competition Awards were announced on 01 March 2012.

The Northern Circuit sends its congratulations to those Circuiteers who have been elevated to Silk in the 2011-12 competition. They are:

International Committee for the Northern Circuit

Gerard McDermott QC is to establish an International Committee for the Circuit. Gerard has been involved in International Affairs for many years and will be looking to foster relations with one or two jurisdictions overseas in addition to organising educational programmes.

The International Committee held its inaugural meeting at 9 St John Street Chambers on Thursday 2 February 2012. If you would like to become involved in this group, please email Susan Chisholme or Holly-Ann Shaw.

New Circuit Leader

Richard Pratt QC of 7 Harrington Street Chambers in Liverpool has been elected as the next Leader of the Northern Circuit. His three year term of office will commence on 01 January 2011.

The Annual Remuneration Conference will be held on the 19 June 2010, from 9.45am to 4pm at the Hotel Russell, Russell Square, London.

Conference topic will be Alternative Business Structures. Speakers will include: Baroness Ruth Deech DBE, Nicholas Green QC, Professor Stephen Mayson, Patricia Robertson QC and James Thorne.

Congratulatory Dinner

There are still some places available for the dinner in London on Saturday 5 December honouring the appointment of Mr Justice Holroyde to the High Court.

The dinner is now less than a month away and is an important evening both for the Circuit and Holroyde J.

Pupils and those waiting to be elected this Term are also welcome.

In any event, it would be much appreciated if people could confirm their attendance by not later than Friday 20 November.

In addition to Bar Council loyalty discounts for returning delegates, discounts for groups of three or more and places available for pupils to attend for £25 there are also a limited number of Northern Circuit grants still available to members of Circuit who are 7 years call and under.
