For Pupils
Advocacy - 18 & 19 December 2007
Advocacy training for pupils will take place at Manchester Town Hall
on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 December 2007. Invitations will be
issued in due course.
Family - 17 December 2007
It is also a Circuit requirement that pupils attend a training day
in Family Law, which takes place this year on Monday 17 December. If
you intend to practise in Family Law you will need to attend for the
full day and, if not, for the morning only. Details will be sent to
chambers in due course.
For New Practitioners
Ethics - 2 October & 6 November 2007
Ethics training will take place again this year at the Manchester
Metropolitan University on Tuesday 2 October and Tuesday 6 November
2007. Each session wil be 1.5 hours in duration, together meeting the
Bar Council's requirements of 3 hours for New Practitioners.
Advocacy - 6 October & 10 November 2007
New Practitioner Advocacy training will take place at the Manchester
Metropolitan University on Saturday 6 October and Saturday 10
November. Each training session will last 4.5 hours, together meeting
the new Bar Council requirements of 9 hours of advocacy training for
New Practitioners. This year's training will be open to those New
Practitioners whose NPP ends by December 2007 and invitations have been
issued accordingly: if you have not received an invitation and fall
into this category, please contact the Circuit office.
For New & Established Practitioners
A seminar programme is organised in conjunction with, and held at,
the Manchester Metropolitan University. Further dates for Autumn will
be added in due course.
Chambers' management / practice development
Pupil Supervisor Courses -
Liverpool 11 September 2007 & Manchester 13 September 2007
Pupil Supervisor courses will be held in Liverpool and Manchester in
early September to co-incide with the Autumn intake of pupils.
Public Access training
The College of Law, in association with the Bar Council, has
designed a one day course for barristers wishing to undertake
public access work: the course aims to provide barristers with the
knowledge needed to accept and manage 'direct' instructions. Further

The Bar Conference
The Bar Conference will be held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on 3
November 2007 and takes "Human Rights: Taking Liberties" as its theme.

University of Liverpool Law School
The University of Liverpool Law Clinic will be formally opened by
the Rt Hon Lord Goldsmith QC. The launch, which takes place on 2
October at 6pm in the Law School's Moot Room, will feature a Public
Lecture by Lord Goldsmith on"Pro Bono Activity in UK Law Schools",
followed by drinks in the foyer. RSVP to katek@liv.ac.uk by 14 Sept.
