TSOL Event - Civil Treasury Counsel - Widening the Pool

 

The Attorney General is about to advertise for Counsel to apply to join his regional panel of Counsel to carry out civil work for government departments. David Pearson and Simon Harker from the Treasury Solicitor's Department spoke to a large number of practitioners at Deans Court Chambers on Thursday 26 April. Chairman's Visit

 

Geoffrey Vos QC, the Bar Council Chairman, accompanied by Tim Dutton QC, Vice Chair, Fayyaz Afzal, Member of the Young Bar Committee and Equality & Diversity Committee, visited Circuit on Tuesday, 24 April. Chambers in Preston and Liverpool welcomed the delegation, where discussions on current issues took place.

 

Pupil Supervisor Courses

 

Pupil Supervisor Courses were held in Liverpool on 18 April and Manchester on 30 April - the next courses will take place in September, dates to be confirmed.

Advice to Counsel

 

Advice to Counsel sessions were held in Liverpool on 1 & 2 February. We extend our thanks to all the speakers, particularly the fee earners from Cassons who provided a comprehensive overview of the financial and tax implications for pupils starting out in practice.

 

Rape & Serious Sexual Offences Seminar - DVDs now available!

 

We are very grateful to all the speakers who took part in the Rape & Serious Sexual Offences seminar on 18 November. All barristers wishing to prosecute cases of rape are required to have completed CPS approved training by October 2007. We are pleased to confirm that DVDs of the seminar, approved for CPS purposes and accredited for CPD, are now available from the Circuit office. Further details here.

 

NPP Ethics

 

John Rowe QC provided insight into the ethical maze to a large group of new and established practitioners, as well as students, at the Manchester Metropolitan University on 17 October and 7 November. The next seminars will take place in Autumn 2007.
