Pupil and New Practitioner Training on Circuit

Each year, the Circuit provides training for pupils and new practitioners. Chambers are kept informed of new events.

Pupil Training

As well as meeting the BSB requirements, the various pupil courses are a great chance to meet up and network with other pupils.

Pupil advocacy training is provided in Manchester in December over two days. Family training is also provided during the same week, with all pupils required to attend the morning session, and those who want to practise family needing to attend for the whole day.

A Practice Management course is held in Liverpool each February over two days to cover aspects of real life practice as pupils enter their second six and prepare to be 'on their feet'. Topics are aimed at encouraging good practice management from the start; for instance, managing your finances including tax; good client care; developing a good working relationship with the clerks; & tips on advocacy before the various courts and tribunals.

New Practitioner Training

New Practitioner advocacy training takes place at the Manchester Metropolitan University over two Saturdays each autumn, together meeting the 9 hours required under the NPP. Priority for places is given to those needing to complete their NPP by the end of the current year.

Ethics courses to meet the 3 hours' requirement are also provided at the MMU in the autumn.

New practitioners are also kept informed of CPD events provided by other organisations, such as the Specialist Bar Associations.
