Civil

We are working with the local Designated Civil Judges [HHJ Beech, HHJ Bird and HHJ Wood KC] and the Presiding Judge (Civil) [Mrs Justice Yip] to try and ensure that as many hearings as possible proceed efficiently and fairly for all participants.  This is a challenge as judges, practitioners and court staff adjust to the demands and limitations imposed by remote hearings.  However, the Circuit remains committed to working in partnership with the judiciary and the court staff at all levels to try and keep the civil justice system moving forwards.

An informal working group has been set up under the leadership of HHJ Sephton KC to monitor listing and arrangements for remote hearings in the Greater Manchester Courts.  Richard Whitehall and Jamie Hill represent the Circuit on that working group.

During the pandemic a number of Guidelines and Practice Directions have been issued.  We have set those out on this page together with other relevant documents including support material provided by the Northern Circuit Coronavirus Task Force.

Members of the Circuit should not hesitate to contact Richard Whitehall or Jamie Hill if they have any questions or concerns about arrangements for civil hearings on Circuit.
